January 22, 2026NEW HOUSING PRICE INDEX, DECEMBER AND ANNUAL 2025 Monthly (December 2025 vs November 2025)

New housing prices in Nova Scotia declined 0.16% from November to December 2025. Nationally the price of new houses was also down 0.16%, with growth in Québec and Manitoba offset by declines in four other provinces. The fastest monthly decline was reported in British Columbia.
Year-over-year (December 2025 vs December 2024)
Nova Scotia’s new housing prices increased 4.8% from December 2024 to December 2025. Nationally, prices were down 2.0%.

New housing prices increased year-over-year in six provinces, led by Nova Scotia. Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia reported declines.

Halifax new home prices increased 4.8% year-over-year in December 2025. Among Census Metropolitan Areas (CMAs), new housing prices were down year-over-year in fourteen CMAs, led by Edmonton and Hamilton. Québec City, Halifax and Regina reported the largest year-over-year gains.

Annual (2025 vs 2024)
In 2025, Nova Scotia's new housing price index was 4.6% higher compared to 2024, the fastest increase among provinces. Nationally, new housing prices were down 1.1% despite gains in seven provinces. Year-to-date declines in new housing prices were reported in Ontario (fastest), British Columbia and Alberta.

Halifax new housing prices were up 4.6% in 2025 compared to 2024, second fastest among provinces. The fastest growth among CMAs was in Québec City and the fastest declines were in London and Toronto.

New house price growth re-accelerated in 2025 following slower growth in 2023 and a decline in 2024.
