February 18, 2026UK UNEMPLOYMENT RATE, OCTOBER-DECEMBER 2025 
The UK unemployment rate for the three-month period October to December 2025 was 5.2%, 0.2 percentage points higher than the preceding 3 month period (July-September 2025). From October to December 2024, the UK unemployment rate averaged 4.4%.
There were 1.883 million unemployed people in the UK, 94,000 (5.3%) more than the preceding 3 month period and 331,000 (21.3%) more than at the same time a year ago. Employment in the UK was at 34.244 million, 52,000 (0.2%) more than the preceding 3 month period and 381,000 (1.1%) more compared to a year earlier. UK labour force increased by 146,000 (0.4%) from the preceding 3 month period and by 712,000 (2.0%) over the past year, rising to 36.127 million.
In both Canada and Nova Scotia, both labour force and employment have grown more rapidly than in the UK.
