NEW HOUSING PRICE INDEX, JANUARY 2026

Monthly (January 2026 vs December 2025)

New housing prices in Nova Scotia were unchanged from December 2025 to January 2026. Nationally the price of new houses was down 0.41%, with growth in Québec offset by declines in four other provinces. The fastest monthly decline was reported in Ontario. 

Year-over-year (January 2026 vs January 2025) 

Nova Scotia’s new housing prices increased 4.8% from January 2025 to January 2026. Nationally, prices were down 2.3%.

New housing prices increased year-over-year in six provinces, led by Nova Scotia. Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia reported declines. 

Halifax new home prices increased 4.8% year-over-year in January 2026. Among Census Metropolitan Areas (CMAs), new housing prices were down year-over-year in fourteen CMAs, led by Edmonton and Hamilton. Québec City, Halifax and Regina reported the largest year-over-year gains.
