Nova Scotia food services and drinking places receipts decreased by 1.6% to $203.2 million in December. Canada's food services receipts decreased by 0.3% to $8.56 billion, with decreases in every province except in Ontario and British Columbia. Newfoundland and Labrador reported the fastest monthly decline.
Year-over-year (December 2025 vs December 2024)
Nova Scotia reported a year-over-year gain of 5.6% in food service receipts. Canada's food services receipts increased 3.9% with year-over-year gains in all provinces with the strongest gain in Manitoba. British Columbia reported the slowest gain.

Annual (2025 vs 2024)
Nova Scotia's annual food service receipts increased 7.0%, the fastest gain on par with New Brunswick. Nationally food service receipts increased 5.7%. All provinces reported an annual increase in receipts, with British Columbia reporting the smallest increase.

Nova Scotia's annual gains in food service receipts (in value terms) are mainly attributable to the increases in limited and full service eating places, with a smaller rise for special food services (mobile, and catering) receipts. Nova Scotia drinking places reported slightly lower annual receipts compared to last year.

Special food services and full service restaurants reported the strongest growth rates in percentage terms.

Trends
Nova Scotia's food service receipts exhibit more volatility than national food service receipts, but in recent months Nova Scotia's receipts have grown faster than the national trend.

Nova Scotia's annual food services and drinking places receipts increased 7.0% to $2.43 billion.
