Month-over-month (January 2026 vs December 2025, seasonally adjusted)
The United Kingdom (UK) goods and services trade balance changed from a deficit (£4.3 billion in December 2025) to a surplus (£3.9 billion in January 2026). Exports of goods and services increased 7.2% (£5.5 billion) to £82.5 billion and imports of goods and services decreased 3.3% (£2.7 billion) to £78.6 billion.
The UK goods trade deficit narrowed by £8.3 billion to £14.4 billion. Exports of goods increased 18.1% (£5.4 billion) to £35.5 billion and imports of goods decreased 5.4% (£2.8 billion) to £50.0 billion.
The UK services trade surplus was unchanged at £18.4 billion. Exports of services increased 0.2% (£0.1 billion) to £47.0 billion and imports of services increased 0.4% (£0.1 billion) to £28.6 billion.

The UK goods and services trade balance changed from a deficit of £2.0 billion in January 2025 to a surplus of £3.9 billion in January 2026. The goods trade deficit narrowed by £2.7 billion and the services trade surplus widened by £3.1 billion.

The UK-EU goods trade deficit narrowed by £0.7 billion to £11.0 billion. Exports of goods increased by 6.2% (£0.9 billion) to £15.5 billion and imports of goods increased by 0.6% (£0.2 billion) to £26.5 billion.
The UK-non-EU goods trade deficit narrowed by £7.5 billion to £3.5 billion. Exports of goods increased 29.3% (£4.5 billion) to £20.0 billion and imports of goods decreased by 11.3% (£3.0 billion) to £23.5 billion.

The UK-EU goods trade deficit widened by £1.5 billion and non-EU goods trade deficit narrowed by £4.2 billion.
