Across Canada, the number of goods exporting firms contracted by 0.3%.  The number of goods exporting firms increased in five provinces, led by Saskatchewan and New Brunswick (followed by Nova Scotia).  Prince Edward Island reported the sharpest contraction in the number of goods exporting firms.

With lower goods exports and more goods exporting firms, the value of goods exports per exporting firm fell by 5.6% in Nova Scotia.  Nationally, goods exports per firm were up 0.4% despite declines in 7 provinces (led by New Brunswick, Saskatchewan and Nova Scotia).  Prince Edward Island reported the strongest growth in goods exports per firm.

Across Canada, firms in Newfoundland and Labrador had the highest value of goods exports per firm.  Nova Scotia reported the lowest value of goods exports per firm in 2025 at $5.93 million.

Looking at goods-producing industries as well as wholesale trade (excluding the small value of goods exports from other services-producing industries), Nova Scotia's value of exports per firm were typically lower than the comparable national averages.  The exceptions were: plastics/rubber products and agriculture/forestry/fishing.

In 2025, there were 1,062 goods-exporting firms in Nova Scotia.  This was an increase of 25 compared with 2024 - the third consecutive year of increase.  This was the largest number of goods exporting firms in Nova Scotia since 2007.

The value of goods exports per Nova Scotia firm contracted to $5.93 million in 2025.

The number of goods exporters in the Halifax and East Hants Census Metropolitan Area exceeds the number found throughout the rest of the province.

Although Halifax and East Hants accounted for over half of goods exporters, the value of exports per firm was substantially higher for exporters outside the Census Metropolitan Area.
