US CONSTRUCTION SPENDING, MARCH 2026

Month over month (March 2026 vs February 2026), seasonally adjusted annual rate)

US construction spending increased 0.6% to $2,185.5 billion.                                                                                                                                

  • Total residential construction increased 1.6% to $941.7 billion.
  • Total non-residential construction spending decreased 0.2% to $1,243.8 billion.
  • Private sector construction increased 0.8% to $1,659.0 billion.
  • Public sector construction decreased 0.2% to $526.4 billion.                                                         

Private residential construction increased 1.7% to $929.7 billion, while private non-residential construction spending decreased 0.2% to $729.4 billion.

Public residential construction decreased 2.3% to $12.0 billion, while public non-residential construction spending decreased 0.2% to $514.4 billion.

Year-to-date (January-March 2026 vs January-March 2025)

US construction spending increased 0.8%. 

  • Total residential construction increased 1.5%.   
  • Total non-residential construction spending increased 0.2%.   
  • Private sector construction decreased 0.3%.
  • Public sector construction increased 4.2%.
