EU AND EURO AREA TRADE BALANCE IN GOODS, APRIL 2026

Month-over-month (April vs March 2026, seasonally adjusted)

In the 27 countries of the European Union, the trade deficit in goods widened by €1.2 billion to €4.7 billion. Exports from the European Union were up 3.2% to €224.8 billion while imports were up by 3.7% to €229.5 billion.

From January 2026, Euro Area now consists of 21 countries after inclusion of Bulgaria. In the 21 countries of the Euro Area, the surplus in goods trade widened by €0.7 billion to €1.3 billion. Exports from the Euro Area were up 3.2% to €253.9 billion while imports were up by 2.9% to €252.6 billion.

European Union trade in goods with Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom

• The European Union's surplus in goods trade with Canada widened by €377.9 million to €1.6 billion.
• The European Union's surplus in goods trade with the US narrowed by €575.1 million to €10.3 billion. 
• The European Union surplus in goods trade with the UK widened by €136.6 million to €16.7 billion. 

Euro Area Trade in goods with Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom

For the subset of European Union countries that use the Euro

• the Euro Area surplus in goods trade with Canada widened by €364.0 million to €1.0 billion.
• the Euro Area surplus in goods trade with the US narrowed by €796.6 million to €8.6 billion. 
• the Euro Area surplus in goods trade with the UK narrowed by €72.2 million to €13.3 billion.
