TERANET-NATIONAL BANK HOUSE PRICE INDEX, MAY 2026

Monthly (May vs April 2026, seasonally adjusted)

Halifax resale home prices, as measured by the Teranet-National Bank House Price Index (seasonally adjusted), fell 0.89% from April to May 2026. 

The composite 11-city index of resale house prices dropped 1.01%, with declines in eight cities. Hamilton reported the fastest decline and Victoria reported the fastest gain.

Year-over-year (May 2026 vs May 2025)

Halifax resale home prices were down 0.3% year-over-year. Prices for the 11-city composite index were down 4.3% with declines in seven of 11 urban centers. Québec City reported the fastest pace of growth over May 2025 while the fastest decline was in Hamilton.

Year-to-date (January-May 2026 vs January-May 2025)

In the first five months of 2026, Halifax resale home prices were down 1.0%. Composite 11-city index dropped 4.4% with declines in seven urban centers. Toronto reported the fastest decline white Québec City reported the fastest gain.

Trends

Halifax resale home prices have reported positive year-over-year growth throughout 2024 and 2025. In May 2026, the national index saw its thirteenth consecutive year-over-year decline. Since January 2019, year-over-year Halifax resale home price growth has outpaced the national composite in all but four months.

Québec City and Edmonton set a new high for resale house prices in May.
