US RETAIL SALES AND FOOD SERVICE RECEIPTS, MAY 2026

Month-over-month (May vs April 2026, seasonally adjusted)

US retail sales increased 1.0% from the previous month. Food service and drinking places receipts declined 0.1%.                       

Year-over-year (May 2026 vs May 2025, seasonally adjusted)

US retail trade increased 7.5% and food services and drinking places sales increased 2.7%.

Year-to-date (January-May 2026 vs January-May 2025)

In the first five months of 2026, retail trade and food services receipts were up 4.7% compared to the same period of 2025. US retail sales were up 4.9% with gains in all categories except furniture. The fastest gains (in percentage terms) were in gas stations and non-store retailers. Food service receipts were up 3.4% in January-May 2026.
