July 21, 2026UK UNEMPLOYMENT RATE, MARCH-MAY 2026 
The UK unemployment rate for the three-month period March-May 2026 was 4.9%, unchanged than the preceding 3-month period (December 2025-February 2026). From March-May 2025, the UK unemployment rate averaged 4.7%.
There were 1.760 million unemployed people in the UK, 17,000 (-1.0%) lower than the preceding 3 month period and 81,000 (+4.8%) more than over the same period a year ago. Employment in the UK was at 34.475 million, 147,000 (+0.4%) more than the preceding 3-month period and 340,000 (+1.0%) more compared to a year earlier. UK labour force increased by 131,000 (+0.4%) from the preceding 3-month period, rising to 36.235 million and increased by 421,000 (+1.2%) over the past year.
In both Canada and Nova Scotia, labour force and employment have grown more rapidly than in the UK.
