UK UNEMPLOYMENT RATE, APRIL-JUNE 2026

The UK unemployment rate for the three-month period April-June 2026 was 4.9%, down from the preceding 3-month period (January 2025-March 2026). From April-June 2025, the UK unemployment rate averaged 4.7%.  

There were 1.772 million unemployed people in the UK, 36,000 (-2.0%) lower than the preceding 3 month period and 88,000 (+5.2%) more than over the same period a year ago. Employment in the UK was at 34.469 million, 83,000 (+0.2%) more than the preceding 3-month period and 253,000 (+0.7%) more compared to a year earlier. UK labour force increased by 48,000 (+0.1%) from the preceding 3-month period, rising to 36.242 million and increased by 341,000 (+0.9%) over the past year.

In both Canada and Nova Scotia, labour force and employment have grown more rapidly than in the UK.
