CANADA'S BALANCE OF INTERNATIONAL PAYMENTS Q2 2026

Quarter-over-quarter (all countries, seasonally adjusted, Q2 2026 vs. Q1 2025)

Canada's current account receipts increased by $27.8 billion to $372.3 billion while current account payments increased by $10.6 billion to $363.5 billion. This resulted in Canada's current account deficit of $8.3 billion becoming a surplus of $8.8 billion. This was the first quarterly current account surplus since Q2 2022, and the largest since Q4 2005.

Goods exports were up $26.9 billion to $232.1 billion while goods imports were up $8.3 billion to $219.9 billion. As a result, the goods balance deficit became a surplus of $12.2 billion.

Services exports were up $602 million to $62.0 billion while services imports increased $1.0 billion to $62.0 billion. The services surplus decreased by $446 million to $26 million.

Primary income receipts increased by $1.5 billion to $72.8 billion while primary income payments increased by $1.8 billion to $75.4 billion. The primary income deficit increased by $303 million, to $2.61 billion.

Secondary income receipts decreased by $1.3 billion to $5.4 billion while secondary income payments decreased by $577 million to $6.2 billion. The resulting $704 million reduction in the secondary income balance increased the secondary income deficit to $782 million.
