September 08, 2026JAPAN GDP, Q2 2026 (REVISED)
Revised estimates indicate that the Japanese economy (real GDP) grew at a seasonally adjusted annualized rate of 1.4% in the second quarter of 2026, slower than the 1.9% growth rate in Q1 2026.
Real GDP growth in the second quarter of 2026 was supported by higher exports (1.6%), government consumption (6.9%), and a decline in imports (-6.5%). These gains were partially offset by declines in household consumption (-0.2%), residential investment (-2.3%), non-residential investment (-3.7%) and public investment (-1.8%).

Japan's nominal GDP increased at a 5.5% seasonally adjusted annualized rate in the second quarter of 2026. The GDP deflator, a broad measure of economy-wide price growth, rose at a seasonally adjusted annualized rate of 3.9% in the second quarter, indicating that much of the increase in nominal output reflected higher prices rather than stronger real economic activity.
