September 15, 2026UK UNEMPLOYMENT RATE, MAY-JULY 2026 
The UK unemployment rate for the three-month period May-July 2026 was 4.9%, unchanged from the preceding 3-month period (February-April 2026). From May-July 2025, the UK unemployment rate averaged 4.7%.
There were 1.778 million unemployed people in the UK, 10,000 (+0.6%) more than the preceding 3-month period and 82,000 (+4.8%) more than over the same period a year ago. Employment in the UK was at 34.478 million, 67,000 (+0.2%) more than the preceding 3-month period and 243,000 (+0.7%) more compared to a year earlier. UK labour force increased by 77,000 (+0.2%) from the preceding 3-month period, rising to 36.256 million and increased by 325,000 (+0.9%) over the past year.
In both Canada and Nova Scotia, labour force and employment have grown more rapidly than in the UK.
