September 16, 2026US RETAIL SALES AND FOOD SERVICE RECEIPTS, AUGUST 2026 Month-over-month (August vs July 2026, seasonally adjusted)
US retail sales and food services both increased 1.2% from the previous month.
Year-over-year (August 2026 vs August 2025, seasonally adjusted)
US retail trade increased 6.0% and food services and drinking places sales increased 5.8%.
Year-to-date (January-August 2026 vs January-August 2025)
In the first eight months of 2026, retail trade and food services receipts were up 5.2% compared to the same period of 2025. US retail sales were up 5.4% with gains in all categories except furniture. The fastest gains (in percentage terms) were in gas stations. Food service receipts were up 4.4% in January-August 2026.
