TERANET-NATIONAL BANK HOUSE PRICE INDEX, AUGUST 2026

Monthly (August vs July 2026, seasonally adjusted)

Halifax resale home prices, as measured by the Teranet-National Bank House Price Index (seasonally adjusted), declined 0.57% from July to August 2026. 

The composite 11-city index of resale house prices declined 0.19% with declines in six cities. Vancouver reported the fastest decline and Victoria reported the fastest increase.

Year-over-year (August 2026 vs August 2025)

Halifax resale home prices were down 1.0% year-over-year. Prices for the 11-city composite index were down 3.7% with declines in seven of 11 urban centers. Vancouver reported the fastest decline while Québec City reported the fastest growth compared to August 2025.

Year-to-date (January-August 2026 vs January-August 2025)

In the first eight months of 2026, Halifax resale home prices were down 0.9%. Composite 11-city index dropped 4.2% with declines in seven urban centers. Toronto reported the fastest decline white Québec City reported the fastest gain.

Trends

Halifax resale home prices reported positive year-over-year growth throughout 2024 and 2025, slowing toward the end of 2025. Resale home prices have been declining through most of 2026.

In August 2026, the national index saw its sixteenth consecutive year-over-year decline. Since January 2019, year-over-year Halifax resale home price growth has outpaced the national composite in all but four months.

There were no new highs set for resale house prices in August.
