US GDP 2026 Q2 (THIRD ESTIMATE)

The Bureau of Economic Analysis has released its second estimate of Q2 US Real Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

US real GDP growth was estimated at 2.2% (seasonally adjusted annualized rate) for Q2 2026, revised up from its second estimate of 1.5%.

The increase in real GDP was driven by gains in non-residential investment (+9.0%), exports (+5.0%), federal government defence spending (+5.3%), personal consumption expenditures (+3.8%), residential investment (+2.8%), and state and local government spending (+1.2%). Inventory accumulation also decreased substantially. These gains were partially offset by a decline in federal non-defence spending (-12.7%) and higher imports (+12.6%).

Current-dollar GDP growth was up to 8.5% (annualized rate) in the third estimate, following a 5.8% current-dollar GDP increase in Q1 2026.

Private inventory investment was estimated at -$63.4 billion net accumulation in the third estimate of Q2 2026, compared to Q1 2026 inventory investment accumulation of -$34.7 billion. This was the fifth consecutive quarter of net inventory drawdown, the longest net inventory drawdown since 2009.
