US CONSTRUCTION SPENDING, AUGUST 2026

Month over month (August 2026 vs July 2026, seasonally adjusted annual rate)

US construction spending increased 0.9% to $2,203.1 billion.

  • Total residential construction increased 1.1% to $894.6 billion.
  • Total non-residential construction spending increased 0.7% to $1,308.5 billion.
  • Private sector construction increased 1.1% to $1,655.3 billion.
  • Public sector construction increased 0.2% to $547.8 billion.

Private residential construction increased 1.1% to $882.3 billion, while private non-residential construction spending increased 1.0% to $773.0 billion.

Public residential construction increased 0.3% to $12.3 billion, while public non-residential construction spending increased 0.2% to $535.5 billion.

Year-to-date (January-August 2026 vs January-August 2025)

US construction spending decreased 2.9%. 

  • Total residential construction decreased 3.3%.   
  • Total non-residential construction spending decreased 2.6%. 
  • Private sector construction decreased 4.1%.
  • Public sector construction increased 0.9%.
