EU AND EURO AREA RETAIL TRADE, DECEMBER AND ANNUAL 2021

 

Month-over-month (Dec 2021 vs. Nov 2021, seasonally adjusted turnover value)

In the European Union, retail sales were down 2.3%. In the Euro Area, retail sales were down 2.5%.

 

 

ANNUAL 2021 vs. 2020 (seasonally adjusted turnover value)

In the European Union, retail sales were up 7.7%. In the Euro Area, retail sales were up 7.1%.

By member state,

Where data is available, the strongest growth in annual retail sales occurred in Slovenia (23.5%) and Lithuania (18.6%) . The weakest growth was reported in Germany (2.9%) and Slovakia (4.3%) .

 

Note: Countries in the Euro Area are a subset of the countries in the European Union and contribute to the EU average.  Individual countries reported with green bars are in the European Union but not in the Euro Area
