US TRADE BALANCE, JANUARY 2022

Month over month (Jan-22 vs. Dec-21)

The US net trade deficit widened by $7.7 billion to $89.7 billion. The net goods deficit widened by $7.1 billion to $108.9 billion and the net services surplus narrowed by $0.6 billion to $19.2 billion.

Total exports decreased 1.7% (-$3.9 billion) to $224.4 billion. Exports of goods decreased 1.5% (-$2.3 billion) to $155.9 billion. Exports of services decreased 2.3% (-$1.6 billion) to $68.5 billion.

Total imports increased 1.2% (+$3.8 billion) to $314.1 billion. Imports of goods increased 1.8% (+$4.8 billion) to $264.8 billion. Imports of services decreased 2.0% (-$1.0 billion) to $49.3 billion.

Year over year (Jan 2022 vs. Jan 2021)

The US net trade deficit widened by $24.6 billion. The net goods deficit widened by $22.9 billion and the net services surplus narrowed by $1.7 billion.

Total exports increased 15.4% (+$29.9 billion). Exports of goods increased 15.8% (+$21.3 billion). Exports of services increased 14.3% (+$8.6 billion).

Total imports increased 21.0% (+$54.4 billion). Imports of goods increased 20.0% (+$44.2 billion). Imports of services increased 26.2% (+$10.2 billion).
