LABOUR FORCE SURVEY, JUNE 2022

MONTH OVER MONTH (Jun-22 vs May-22, seasonally adjusted)

In Nova Scotia,

  • Labour force increased 1,700 (0.3%) to 515,500
  • Employment increased 100 (0.0%) to 479,500
  • Unemployment increased 1,500 (4.4%) to 35,900
  • Unemployment Rate increased 0.3 percentage points to 7.0%

In Canada, 

  • Labour force decreased 97,500 (-0.5%) to 20,600,600
  • Employment decreased 43,200 (-0.2%) to 19,597,100
  • Unemployment decreased 54,300 (-5.1%) to 1,003,500
  • Unemployment Rate decreased 0.2 percentage points to 4.9%

In Halifax,  (3-month moving average) 

  • Labour force increased 3,500 (1.3%) to 265,000
  • Employment increased 3,400 (1.4%) to 252,700
  • Unemployment increased 100 (0.8%) to 12,300
  • Unemployment Rate decreased 0.1 percentage points to 4.6%

YEAR OVER YEAR (Jun-22 vs Jun-21)

In Nova Scotia,

  • Labour force increased 12,100 (2.4%)
  • Employment increased 19,800 (4.3%)
  • Unemployment decreased 7,900 (-18.0%)
  • Unemployment rate decreased 1.7 percentage points

In Canada,

  • Labour force increased 257,500 (1.3%)
  • Employment increased 797,700 (4.2%)
  • Unemployment decreased 540,100 (-35.0%)
  • Unemployment rate decreased 2.7 percentage points

In Halifax, (3-month moving average)

  • Labour force increased 8,700 (3.4%)
  • Employment increased 18,500 (7.9%)
  • Unemployment decreased 9,800 (-44.3%)
  • Unemployment rate decreased 4.0 percentage points
