CONSUMER PRICE INDEX, MAY 2023

YEAR-OVER-YEAR (May 2023 vs May 2022)

All items:  consumer prices in Nova Scotia increased 2.0%. The national average inflation was 3.4%. In Halifax consumer prices increased 2.4%.

All items excluding food and energy: Nova Scotia consumer prices outside of food and energy increased 4.2%. This was higher than the national average increase of 4.0%.

MONTH-OVER-MONTH (May 2023 vs April 2023)

All items: consumer prices in Nova Scotia were down 0.3%. Nationally, consumer prices were 0.4% higher from the previous month. In Halifax consumer prices decreased 0.3%.

All items excluding food and energy: Nova Scotia consumer prices excluding food and energy increased 0.1% month over month in May 2023, below the national average price rise of 0.4%.
