EU AND EURO AREA UNEMPLOYMENT RATE, APRIL 2024

Eurostat has reported that the unemployment rate in the Euro Area has edged down to 6.4% in April 2024. For the broader 27 countries of the entire European Union, the unemployment rate was unchanged at 6.0% in April 2024.

In April, youth unemployment rates declined to 14.4% from 14.7% in March in the European Union and were down 14.1% from 14.3% in the Euro Area. The unemployment rate for females in the European Union was 6.3% (from 6.4% in March) while the male unemployment rate was unchanged at 5.7%. The Euro Area unemployment rate for females was 6.7% in April 2024 (6.9% in March) while the Euro Area unemployment rate for males was unchanged at 6.1%. 

Among EU member state economies, the April unemployment rates were highest in Spain and Greece. Unemployment rates were lowest in Czechia and Poland.
