CANADA BUSINESS SECTOR LABOUR PRODUCTIVITY, Q1 2024

Labour productivity of Canadian businesses decreased at a seasonally adjusted annualized rate of 1.1% from Q4 2023 to Q1 2024, following a gain of 0.8% in Q4 2023. Hours worked increased 1.7% and output was up 0.6%. 

Total compensation per hour increased at a seasonally adjusted annualized rate of 4.2% in Q1 2024, the twelfth consecutive increase since the first quarter of 2021. Unit labour costs of Canadian businesses increased at a seasonally adjusted annualized rate of 5.3% in Q1 2024.
