NEW HOUSING PRICE INDEX, APRIL 2026

Monthly (April vs March 2026)

New housing prices in Nova Scotia were unchanged from March to April 2026. Nationally the price of new houses was down 0.4%, with Québec, Manitoba and Saskatchewan posting growth and the four Atlantic provinces reporting no change. The fastest monthly decline was reported in Alberta, with declines also in Ontario and British Columbia. 

Year-over-year (April 2026 vs April 2025) 

Nova Scotia’s new housing prices increased 1.8% from April 2025 to April 2026. Nationally, prices were down 2.3%.

New housing prices increased year-over-year in five provinces, led by Saskatchewan and Manitoba, while Ontario reported the largest decline. Newfoundland and Labrador and new Brunswick reported no change.

Halifax new home prices increased 1.8% year-over-year in April 2026. Among Census Metropolitan Areas (CMAs), new housing prices were down year-over-year in fourteen CMAs, led by Toronto. Regina reported the largest year-over-year gain.

Year-to-date (January-April 2026 vs January-April 2025)

In the first four months of 2026, Nova Scotia new housing prices rose 2.5%. Nationally, new house prices declined 2.3%, with gains in six provinces led by Saskatchewan, offset by declines in Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia. 

Halifax housing prices were up 2.5% in January-April 2026 compared to the same period a year ago. There were declines in prices in 13 CMAs through out Canada. Regina reported the largest increase while Hamilton and Toronto posted the largest declines in new house prices.
