EURO AREA TRADE BALANCE IN GOODS, DECEMBER and ANNUAL 2017

DECEMBER

In December 2017, the euro area (EA19) recorded a €25.4 bn surplus in trade in goods (not seasonally adjusted) with the rest of the world.

The first estimate for EA19 exports of goods reported an increase of 1.0 per cent to €180.7 billion over December 2016. Imports increased 2.5 per cent to €155.3 bn over December 2016. It was also reported that intra-euro area trade increased 2.8 per cent to €142.4 bn over December 2016.

In December 2017, the European Union (EU28) recorded a €14.3 bn surplus in trade in goods (not seasonally adjusted) with the rest of the world.

The first estimate for EU28 exports of goods reported a decrease of 2.7 per cent to €160.6 billion over December 2016. Imports increased 1.4 per cent to €146.4 bn over December 2016. It was also reported that intra-EU28 area trade increased 2.9 per cent to €256.2 bn over December 2016.

 

 

ANNUAL

 

In 2017, the euro area (EA19) recorded a €238.1 bn surplus in trade in goods (not seasonally adjusted) with the rest of the world. The first estimate for EA19 exports of goods reported an increase of 7.1 per cent to €2.193 billion over 2016. Imports increased 9.7 per cent to €1,955 bn over 2016.

It was also reported that intra-euro area trade increased 7.4 per cent to €1,841 bn over 2016.

In 2017, the European Union (EU28) recorded a €25.0 bn surplus in trade in goods (not seasonally adjusted) with the rest of the world. The first estimate for EU28 exports of goods reported an increase of 7.7 per cent to €1,879 billion over 2016. Imports increased 8.2 per cent to €1,854 bn over 2016.

It was also reported that intra-EU28 area trade increased 7.3 per cent to €3,343 bn over 2016.

 

Selected EU Trading Partners

In 2017, the European Union (EA19) recorded a €108.3 bn surplus in trade in goods (not seasonally adjusted) with the United States. The first estimate for EA19 exports of goods to the US  reported an increase  to €293.6 bn over 2016. Imports increased to €185.2 bn over 2016.

In 2017, the European Union (EU28) recorded a €120.8 bn surplus in trade in goods (not seasonally adjusted) with the United States. The first estimate for EU28 exports of goods to the US  reported an increase of 3.2 per cent to €375.0 bn over 2016. Imports increased 1.5 per cent to €254.2 bn over 2016.

 

In 2017, the European Union (EA19) recorded a €11.8 bn surplus in trade in goods (not seasonally adjusted) with Canada. The first estimate for EA19 exports of goods to Canada reported an increase to  €28.4 bn over 2016. Imports increased to €16.7 bn over 2016.

In 2017, the European Union (EU28) recorded a €6.3 bn surplus in trade in goods (not seasonally adjusted) with Canada. The first estimate for EU28 exports of goods to Canada reported an increase of 7.1 per cent to €37.7 bn over 2016. Imports increased 7.6 per cent to €31.4 bn over 2016.
