EU AND EURO AREA CONSUMER PRICE INFLATION, JUNE 2018

In June, inflation was stable at 2.0 per cent in the European Union and up slightly to 2.0 per cent in the Euro Area.  Inflation for all items has been growing more rapidly in Canada and Nova Scotia through the winter, but in the last two months, inflation pressures have started to catch up in Europe.

Among member states, the fastest year-over-year inflation was reported in Romania, Estonia, Hungary and Bulgaria.  The lowest inflation was reported in Ireland, Greece, Denmark and Finland.

In June, food prices increased by 2.4 per cent on a year-over-year basis, while energy prices were up 8.0 per cent in the Euro Area and 7.9 per cent for the EU as a whole.
