CANADA INTERNATIONAL MERCHANDISE TRADE, JUNE 2018

In June 2018, the Canadian merchandise trade (balance of payments basis, seasonally adjusted) deficit narrowed to $626 million.  This is the smallest monthly deficit since January 2017.

Exports are up 4.1 per cent over May 2018 to $50.7 billion, and are up 9.2 per cent over June 2017. Imports edged down 0.2 per cent from May 2018 to $51.3 billion and increased 4.2 per cent over June 2017.

In June 2018, the Canadian merchandise trade surplus with the United States (balance of payments basis, seasonally adjusted) increased to $4.1 billion.

Year-to-date

In the first six months of 2018, the total merchandise trade deficit reached $13.5 billion. Year-to-date goods exports were valued at $288.2 billion and year-to-date goods imports were valued at $301.7 billion.
