October 10, 2019US CONSUMER PRICE INDEX, SEPTEMBER 2019 
The US Consumer Price Index (all urban consumers, seasonally adjusted) was unchanged in September. Year-over-year, consumer prices (unadjusted) rose 1.7 per cent. On a year-over-year basis, US inflation has slowed in recent months as energy prices continue to soften.
Volatile energy prices account for much of the variation in US inflation. In September, year-over-year energy prices declined 4.8 per cent. Over the same time period, inflation for all items outside food and energy was 2.4 per cent and food price inflation was 1.8 per cent.
US inflation (year-over-year) was similar to price growth observed in Canada and Nova Scotia throughout much of 2018.
