US TRADE BALANCE, SEPTEMBER 2019

In September 2019, US Goods and Services trade deficit narrowed by $2.6 billion to $52.5 billion. The goods trade deficit narrowed by $2.7 billion to $71.7 billion. The services trade surplus narrowed by $120 million to $19.3 billion.

Monthly exports decreased by $1.8 billion  to $206.0 billion. Goods exports increased by $1.8 billion to $136.8 billion, and services exports decreased by $55 million to $69.2 billion.

US imports were down $4.4 billion to $258.4 billion, reflecting a $ 4.9 billion decrease to $208.6 billion in goods imports and a $65 million increase to $49.9 billion in services imports.

On a year-to-date basis, the US trade deficit widened by $24.8 billion to $481.3 billion. The goods trade deficit widened by $4.8 billion to $659.8 billion. The services trade surplus narrowed by $20.0 billion to $178.5 billion.
