January 16, 2020US RETAIL SALES, DECEMBER AND ANNUAL 2019 The US Census Bureau announced today the advance estimates of US retail and food service sales for December 2019. There was a seasonally adjusted 0.3 per cent increase ($1.8 billion) over November 2019 to $529.6 billion, and a 5.8 per cent increase over December 2018.
Excluding food services and drinking places, retail trade sales increased 0.4 per cent over November 2019, and increased 6.0 per cent over December 2018. Food service and drinking place receipts increased 0.2 per cent to $65.0 billion.
Annual 2019
US Retail & Food Services sales increased 3.3 per cent over 2018. Retail trade increased 2.7 per cent and food services and drinking places sales increased 4.9 per cent .
Sales were up in all categories except for electronics, sporting and recreation, and clothing. The fastest gains were in non-store retailers as well as food services.
