NOVA SCOTIA - INTERNATIONAL MERCHANDISE TRADE SEPTEMBER 2020

Year-to-Date (Jan-Sep 2020 vs Jan-Sep 2019,  customs based, unadjusted)

In Jan-Sep 2020 vs Jan-Sep 2019, Nova Scotia International Merchandise Trade Exports decreased 16.8% ($781.4 million) to $3,874.5 million.

Sector value increases occurred in

  • Metal/Ores ($16.6 million)
  • Energy ($5.8 million)

 

Sector value declines occurred in

  • Motor vehicles/Parts (-$216.7 million)
  • Farm, Fishing, Intermediate Food Products (-$162.2 million)
  • Forestry/Building/Packaging Materials (-$158.4 million)
  • Consumer Goods (-$113.7 million)
  • Chemical, plastic, rubber (-$64.9 million)
  • Machinery/Equipment (-$40.4 million)
  • Metal/Mineral Products (-$32.6 million)
  • Electronics (-$5.8 million)
  • Special Transactions (-$5.2 million)
  • Transportation Equipment (-$3.7 million)

 

 

Year to date - By Province (Jan-Sep 2020)

Nova Scotia reported a 16.8% loss in merchandise trade exports. Canada reported a 14.6% loss in merchandise trade exports. Newfoundland and Labrador reported the highest increase (+1.8%) while British Columbia reported the highest decline (-26.3%) in merchandise trade exports.

September 2020, Nova Scotia International Merchandise Trade Exports reported a 0.9% loss in merchandise trade exports. This compares to a 0.8% loss in merchandise trade exports in Sep-19 and a 12.2% gain in merchandise trade exports in Sep-18, over the previous year.

September 2020, Canada International Merchandise Trade Exports reported a 6.2% loss in merchandise trade exports. This compares to a 1.1% gain in merchandise trade exports in Sep-19 and a 13.1% gain in merchandise trade exports in Sep-18.

  •  South Korea decreased 17.8% (-$16.5 million)
  •  Hong Kong decreased 58.3% (-$35.2 million)
  •  India increased 59.1% (+$14.0 million)
  •  Taiwan increased 15.2% (+$1.7 million)
  •  Indonesia decreased 92.6% (-$17.1 million)
  •  Singapore decreased 86.3% (-$25.8 million)

 

In Europe, exports to

  • United Kingdom decreased 16.6% (-$11.4 million)
  • Germany increased 0.9% (+$0.4 million)
  •  Italy decreased 22.6% (-$3.1 million)
  •  France decreased 10.9% (-$7.5 million)
  •  Netherlands increased 14.5% (+$8.3 million)
  •  Belgium increased 5.1% (+$1.8 million)
  •  Spain decreased 21.7% (-$8.0 million)
  • Norway increased 22.7% (+$3.4 million)
  • Switzerland decreased 22.2% (-$1.4 million)
  • Russian Federation decreased 23.1% (-$0.7 million)
