TELEWORK OPTIONS, 2019

Statistics Canada's Survey of Digital Technology and Internet Use for 2019 asked 14,127 firms about the availability of telework options for employees.  Responses from businesses were collected from November 2019 to March 2020.

Across Canada, 19.4% of firms in the private sector indicated that they had telework options for employees.  Telework options were more common among firms in information/culture, finance/insurance and professional/technical services.  Telework options were less common among firms in accommodation/food, retail, transportation, personal/repair services, arts/entertainment/recreation, construction, mining/oil/gas and health care/social assistance.

In general, larger firms (100+ employees) and medium-sized firms (20-99 employees) were more likely to offer telework options.  Smaller firms (<20 employees) were generally less likely to offer telework options, with notable exceptions in information/culture, finance/insurance and professional/technical services industries, where firm size appears to have less of an impact on availability of telework options.
