UK RETAIL SALES, NOVEMBER 2020

The UK Office for National Statistics reports that UK retail sales decreased in November 2020 on increased restrictions related to second wave of COVID-19. Despite monthly decline in retail sales, retail sales volumes were 2.6% above February 2020 levels. Retail sales values were 0.9% higher than in February 2020.                                                                                                           

  • Month-over-month retail sales value decreased 4.1% while the retail sales volume (adjusted for price changes) decreased 3.8% over October 2020.
  • Year-over-year retail sales value increased 1.0% and retail sales volume increased 2.4% over November 2019. 
  • Year-to-date (Jan-Nov 2020 vs Jan-Nov 2019) retail sales values were down 3.1% while retail sales volume declined 2.5%.

Internet sales

  • Online retail sales increased by 6.3% in November when compared with October 2020.
  • In November 2020, online sales share of all retail sales increased to 31.4% from 28.6% in October 2020. Online sales share of all retail sales increased from 20.0% in February 2020 to 31.4% in November 2020.
