LABOUR FORCE SURVEY - APRIL 2021

MONTH OVER MONTH (Apr 2021 vs Mar 2021, seasonally adjusted)

In Nova Scotia,

  • Labour force decreased 0.7% (3,500) to 507,200
  • Employment decreased 0.2% (900) to 465,900
  • Unemployment decreased 6.2% (2,700) to 41,200
  • Unemployment Rate decreased 0.5 percentage points to 8.1%.

In Canada, 

  • Labour force decreased 0.4% (83,600) to 20,267,500
  • Employment decreased 1.1% (207,100) to 18,627,200
  • Unemployment increased 8.1% (123,600) to 1,640,300
  • Unemployment Rate increased 0.6 percentage points to 8.1%.

In Halifax,  (3-month moving average) 

  • Labour force decreased 0.5% (1,200) to 262,900
  • Employment decreased 0.3% (800) to 241,700
  • Unemployment decreased 1.9% (400) to 21,200
  • Unemployment Rate decreased 0.1 percentage points to 8.1%

 

YEAR OVER YEAR (Apr 2021 vs Apr 2020, seasonally adjusted)

April 2020 was the month in which the peak employment losses were observed.

In Nova Scotia,

  • Labour force increased 13.4%  (60,100)
  • Employment increased 18.9% (73,900)
  • Unemployment decreased 25.2% (13,900)
  • Unemployment Rate decreased 4.2 percentage points

In Canada,

  • Labour force increased 9.1% (1,682,100)
  • Employment increased 15.4% (2,485,600)
  • Unemployment decreased 32.9% (803,600)
  • Unemployment Rate decreased 5 percentage points

In Halifax, (3-month moving average)

  • Labour force increased 8.6% (20,900)
  • Employment increased 9.9% (21,700)
  • Unemployment creased 3.6% (800)
  • Unemployment Rate decreased 1 percentage points
