July 07, 2021BALTIC DRY INDEX, JUNE 2021 The BDI measures procurement costs of shipping raw materials by sea. When these costs go down, goods producers benefit from lower shipping costs, and consumers benefit from lower prices for finished products.
Recent Activity to June 30, 2021
- May 20, 2008: the BDI = 11,793 a new high for the index
- December 5, 2008: the BDI dropped to 663.
- November 19, 2009: with the global economic recovery, the BDI reached 4661.
- February 10, 2016: the Baltic Exchange reported the BDI = 290 a new low for the index.
- September 04, 2019: the BDI had improved to 2518.
- May 14, 2020: the global pandemic, in part, resulted in the BDI declining to a new recent low of 393.
- October 06, 2020: the BDI rebounded to 2097.
- June 29, 2021: the BDI has increased to 3418.
