October 05, 2021CANADA TRADE BALANCE, AUGUST 2021 GOODS
In August 2021, Canada’s international trade surplus in goods widened to $1,938.6 million after a surplus of $735.7 million in July. Canada international exports of goods rose by 0.8% to $54,444.5 million and imports of goods declined 1.4% to $52,505.9 million. Exports were up on energy products and metal products while non-energy exports edged down, month-to-month. Imports were down largely on a decline in motor vehicle imports.
Canada’s goods trade surplus with the United States was $8,621.6 million in August, down from a $6,762.1 million surplus in the previous month. Canada exported $40,773.4 million in goods to the US and imported $32,151.9 million in goods from the US. Compared to July 2021, Canada's exports to the US were down 0.7% while imports from the US declined by 6.2%.
Canada's deficit in goods trade with the EU narrowed to $2,220.2 million in August 2021. Compared to July 2021, Canada's exports to the EU rose 11.7% to $2,745.9 million while imports from the EU were up 1.2% to $4,966.1 million.
Canada reported a deficit of $2,320.0 million in goods trade with China for August 2021. Canada's exports of goods to China rose 5.1% from July to August to $2,352.1 million. Canada's goods imports from China were up 21.9% to $4,672.1 million.
SERVICES
Canada’s services trade recorded a deficit of $361 million in August 2021, following a deficit of $119 million in July. Services imports were up 3.7% from July to August, rising to $10,124.0 million. Canada's services exports were up 1.3% to $9,763.0 million in August.
GOODS AND SERVICES
Canada's overall trade surplus in goods and services widened from $616.7 million in July to $1,577.6 million in August. Exports of goods and services increased by 0.9% to $64,207.5 million while imports of goods and services were down 0.6% to $62,629.9 million.
