October 12, 2021UK LABOUR FORCE SURVEY, AUGUST 2021 
The UK Office for National Statistics (ONS) reported today that the unemployment rate for the three-month period June 2021 to August 2021 averaged 4.5%.
The UK employment rate among those aged 16-64 averaged 75.3% from June to August 2021. This was up from 74.8% from the previous quarter, March to May 2021.
Economic inactivity rate among those aged 16-64 averaged 21.1% from June to August 2021. In July to September 2021, the number of job vacancies was 1,102,000, which is 318,000 above pre-pandemic levels. This is the second consecutive month job vacancies in the UK were over one million since records began.
The impact of COVID-19 was more apparent in falling employment and labour force in Canada and Nova Scotia. In September 2021 employment and labour force rose in Canada as COVID-19 restrictions continued to ease and reopening plans progressed. In contrast, furloughed workers were considered to be employed in the UK, which muted the impact of COVID-19 on UK employment and labour force statistics.
