US CONSUMER PRICE INDEX, NOVEMBER 2021

The United States Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers increased 6.8% year-over-year in November. This was above the 6.2% increase reported in October, and the largest 12-month increase since the period ending June 1982.

The seasonally adjusted monthly increase was 0.8% with broad increases in the index components. The largest increases came from gasoline, shelter, food, used cars and trucks, and new vehicles. The energy index was up 3.5% from the previous month, mainly driven by a 6.1% increase in gasoline prices. The food index increased 0.7% month-over-month while the shelter index rose 0.5%. 

The index for all items less food and energy was up 4.9% from November 2020. This was the largest 12-month increase since the period ending June 1991. Over the past 12 months, the energy index was up 33.3% and the food index increased 6.1%.
