JAPAN CURRENT ACCOUNT AND TRADE BALANCE, DECEMBER AND ANNUAL 2021

 

 

Current Account (December 2021 vs November 2021)

The net current account surplus narrowed by 582 billion yen to 788 billion yen.

The net goods and services deficit widened by 439 billion yen to 718 billion yen.

The net primary income surplus narrowed by 141 billion yen to 1,714 billion yen.

The net secondary income deficit widened by 2 billion yen to 209 billion yen.

 

Trade Balance (December 2021 vs November 2021)

Net goods changed from a surplus (70 billion yen) to a deficit (428 billion yen).

Net goods exports decreased 310 billion yen to 7,116 billion yen.

Net goods imports increased 189 billion yen to 7,544 billion yen.

 

Net services deficit narrowed by 59 billion yen to 290 billion yen.

 

ANNUAL CURRENT ACCOUNT

In 2021, Japan reported net goods & services trade deficit widened by 1,801 billion yen to 2,526 billion yen.

Net Primary income surplus widened by 1,228 billion yen to 20,381 billion yen.

Net Secondary income deficit narrowed by 130 billion yen to 2,420 billion yen.

As a result, Current account surplus narrowed by 443 billion yen to 15,436 billion yen over 2020.

 

 

ANNUAL TRADE BALANCE

In 2021, Japan's export goods trade increased 14,902 billion yen to 82,272 billion yen over 2020.

Import goods trade increased 16,159 billion yen to 80,519 billion yen over 2020.

As a result, net goods trade surplus narrowed by 1,257 billion yen to 1,754 billion yen over 2020.

Net Services trade deficit widened by 544 billion yen to 4,279 billion yen over 2020.
