CANADA'S BALANCE OF INTERNATIONAL PAYMENTS 2021Q4 AND ANNUAL

 

Current Account - All Countries (Seasonally adjusted, 2021Q4 vs. 2021Q3)

In Canada, the current quarter over the previous quarter current account receipts increased $12.4 billion to $248.0 billion while current account payments increased $14.0 billion to $248.8 billion. The resulting net current account changed from a surplus to a deficit of $0.8 billion.

Export goods and services increased $12.8 billion to $206.0 billion while import goods and services increased $11.1 billion to $203.6 billion. The resulting net goods and services surplus widened by $1.7 billon to $2.4 billion.

Primary income receipts decreased $0.5 billion to $37.6 billion while primary income payments increased $2.0 billion to $39.8 billion. The resulting net primary income changed from a surplus to a deficit of $2.2 billion.

Secondary income receipts increased $0.1 billion to $4.4 billion while imports secondary income payments increased $0.9 billion to $5.4 billion. The resulting net secondary income deficit widened by $0.8 billon to $1.0 billion.

BALANCE OF PAYMENTS WITH THE UNITED STATES (Unadjusted, 2021Q4)

In Canada, the current quarter over the previous quarter current account receipts with the United States increased 7.8% ($12.4 billion) to $171.5 billion while current account payments increased 7.3% ($10.0 billion) to $146.5 billion. Net current account widened by 10.5% (+$2.4 billion) to +$25.0 billion.

Export goods and services receipts increased 8.6% ($11.9 billion) to $150.3 billion while import goods and services payments increased 8.0% ($9.2 billion) to $124.2 billion. Net goods and services widened by 11.3% (+$2.6 billion) to +$26.1 billion.

Exports primary income receipts increased 1.7% ($0.3 billion) to $18.8 billion while imports primary income payments increased 3.1% ($0.6 billion) to $21.1 billion. The resulting net primary income deficit widened by 15.9% to -$2.3 billion.

Exports secondary income receipts increased 7.7% ($0.2 billion) to $2.4 billion while imports secondary income payments increased 12.0% ($0.1 billion) to $1.2 billion. Net secondary income widened by 4.1% (+$0.1 billion) to +$1.3 billion.

 

 

 

ANNUAL

In Canada 2021, the not seasonally adjusted current account changed from a deficit to a surplus increasing $41.0 billion to $1.6 billion over 2020.

 

  

BALANCE OF PAYMENTS WITH THE UNITED STATES (Unadjusted, 2021 vs. 2020)

 

In Canada 2021, the not seasonally adjusted current account with the United States surplus increased $73.5 billion to $86.8 billion over 2020.
