NEW MOTOR VEHICLE SALES, JANUARY 2022

Year-to-date (Jan-2022 vs Jan-2021, unadjusted)

In the first  month of 2022, Nova Scotia new motor vehicle unit sales decreased 7.3%. The 2,316 new motor vehicles sold had a sales value of $99.45 million down 0.2% over Jan 2021.

National new motor vehicles unit sales increased 15.3%. The 94,264 new motor vehicles sold in Jan 2022 represent a sales value of $4.6 million, up 18.8% over Jan 2021.

Unit sales were up in six provinces with the largest increases in Quebec, and with largest declines in Manitoba and Nova Scotia.

Sales values were up in eight provinces with the largest increases in Quebec. The only declines were in Manitoba and Nova Scotia.

Year-over-year growth in sales values were faster for trucks/SUVs than for passenger cars.  Unit sales and sales values grew for North American manufacturers and declined for overseas manufacturers.

Average Prices 

The average sale price of a new motor vehicle in Nova Scotia was up 7.6% in January 2022.  National average prices were up 3.1% with increases in eight provinces.  

Average new motor vehicle sale prices were $42,941 (Jan-22) in Nova Scotia.  National average prices for a new motor vehicle were $48,464; the highest average prices were reported in Alberta and the lowest in Prince Edward Island.

Year-to-date average prices were notably higher for trucks/SUVs than for passenger cars.  Average prices were also higher for North American manufacturers than for overseas manufacturers.
