CANADA GDP BY INDUSTRY, JUNE 2022

Month-over-month (June 2022 vs May 2022)

Real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in Canada edged up slightly (+0.15%) to an annualized value of $2,055 billion (chained 2012 dollars at basic prices) in June  2022. This follows after growth of 0.04% in May.  

Canada's goods-producing sector output increased 0.1% from May to June 2022 with declines particularly concentrated in construction (-0.4%) and utilities (-0.2%). Agricultural real GDP was up 1.5%; manufacturing was up 0.2%; mining, oil and gas industries were up (+0.1%). 

Real GDP in Canada's services-producing industries was up 0.2% from May to June. Arts, entertainment-recreation real GDP was up 1.8%, Other services (personal, repair) was up 1.2%; Accommodation and food services industries' real GDP grew for the fifth month in a row with a 0.8% gain; and Education was up 0.7%. Management of companies was down 5.3%; Finance and insurance was down 0.6%; and Wholesale was down 0.1%.

Year-to-Date (January-June 2022 vs January-June 2021)

The Canadian economy was 4.4% larger in the first six months of 2022 when compared to the same period in 2021. 

Real GDP from goods producing industries was up 3.2%  

Real GDP from services-producing industries was up 4.8% with year-to-date gains in all industries except Management of companies (-30.9%). The strongest increases were in arts, entertainment and recreation (+58.5%) as well as accommodation and food services (+38.0%).  There were notable increases in personal and repair services (+10.2%), transportation and warehousing (+9.9%), professional and technical services (+7.8%),  as well as information and cultural industries (+6.7%) .

July 2022 Advance Estimates

"Advance information indicates that real GDP edged down 0.1% in July. Output was down in the manufacturing, wholesale, retail trade and utilities sectors. Declines were partly offset by increases in the mining, quarrying, oil and gas sector and the agriculture, forestry, fishing and hunting sector. Owing to its preliminary nature, this estimate will be updated on September 29 with the release of the official GDP data for July." STC. Daily
