LABOUR FORCE SURVEY, AUGUST 2022

MONTH OVER MONTH (August 2022 vs July 2022, seasonally adjusted)

In Nova Scotia,

  • Labour force increased 3,800 (+0.7%) to 514,900
  • Employment decreased 5,200 (-1.1%) to 475,900
  • Unemployment increased 9,000 (+30.0%) to 39,000
  • Unemployment Rate increased 1.7 percentage points to 7.6%

In Canada, 

  • Labour force increased 66,200 (+0.3%) to 20,639,800
  • Employment decreased 39,700 (-0.2%) to 19,526,800
  • Unemployment increased 105,900 (+10.5%) to 1,113,000
  • Unemployment Rate increased 0.5 percentage points to 5.4%

In Halifax, (3-month moving average) 

  • Labour force decreased 600 (-0.2%) to 265,600
  • Employment decreased 1,800 (-0.7%) to 251,400
  • Unemployment increased 1,200 (+9.2%) to 14,300
  • Unemployment Rate increased 0.5 percentage points to 5.4%

YEAR OVER YEAR (August 2022 vs August 2021)

In Nova Scotia,

  • Labour force increased 10,200 (+2.0%)
  • Employment increased 10,500 (+2.3%)
  • Unemployment decreased 300 (-0.8%)
  • Unemployment rate decreased 0.2 percentage points

In Canada,

  • Labour force increased 237,200 (+1.2%)
  • Employment increased 579,500 (+3.1%)
  • Unemployment decreased 342,300 (-23.5%)
  • Unemployment rate decreased 1.7 percentage points

In Halifax, (3-month moving average)

  • Labour force increased 9,100 (+3.5%)
  • Employment increased 13,800 (+5.8%)
  • Unemployment decreased 4,600 (-24.3%)
  • Unemployment rate decreased 2.0 percentage points
