MONTH OVER MONTH (December 2022 vs November 2022, seasonally adjusted)

In Nova Scotia,

  • Labour force increased 4,500 (+0.9%) to 518,100
  • Employment increased 700 (+0.1%) to 483,200
  • Unemployment increased 3,900 (+12.6%) to 34,900
  • Unemployment Rate increased 0.7 percentage points to 6.7%

In Canada, 

  • Labour force increased 91,200 (+0.4%) to 20,807,100
  • Employment increased 104,000 (+0.5%) to 19,770,300
  • Unemployment decreased 12,700 (-1.2%) to 1,036,900
  • Unemployment Rate decreased 0.1 percentage points to 5.0%

In Halifax,  (3-month moving average) 

  • Labour force increased 1,000 (+0.4%) to 266,600
  • Employment increased 400 (+0.2%) to 252,100
  • Unemployment increased 600 (+4.3%) to 14,500
  • Unemployment Rate increased 0.2 percentage points to 5.4%

YEAR OVER YEAR (December 2022 vs December 2021)

In Nova Scotia,

  • Labour force increased 6,700 (+1.3%)
  • Employment increased 13,300 (+2.8%)
  • Unemployment decreased 6,600 (-15.9%)
  • Unemployment Rate decreased 1.4 percentage points

In Canada, 

  • Labour force increased 194,800 (0.9%)
  • Employment increased 394,100 (2.0%)
  • Unemployment decreased 199,200 (-16.1%)
  • Unemployment Rate decreased 1.0 percentage points

In Halifax,  (3-month moving average) 

  • Labour force increased 9,000 (+3.5%)
  • Employment increased 10,400 (+4.3%)
  • Unemployment decreased 1,400 (-8.8%)
  • Unemployment Rate decreased 0.8 percentage points

ANNUAL (2022 vs 2021, annual averages)

In Nova Scotia,

  • Labour force increased 6,200 (+1.2%) to an annual average of 512,200
  • Employment increased 15,600 (+3.4%) to an annual average of 479,100
  • Unemployment decreased 9,300 (-21.9%) to an annual average of 33,200
  • Unemployment Rate decreased 1.9 percentage points to an annual average of 6.5%

In Canada, 

  • Labour force increased 266,700 (+1.3%) to an annual average of 20,652,000
  • Employment increased 701,100 (+3.7%) to an annual average of 19,566,500
  • Unemployment decreased 434,400 (-28.6%) to an annual average of 1,085,500
  • Unemployment Rate decreased 2.2 percentage points to an annual average of 5.3%

In Halifax,

  • Labour force increased 4,000 (+1.5%) to an annual average of 262,600
  • Employment increased 10,200 (+4.3%) to an annual average of 249,500
  • Unemployment decreased 6,200 (-32.1%) to an annual average of 13,100
