Month over month (December 2022 vs November 2022, seasonally adjusted)

The US Census Bureau announced today that the advance estimates of U.S retail and food service sales have decreased to $677.1 billion (-1.1%). Excluding food services and drinking places, retail trade sales decreased 1.2% while food service and drinking places fell 0.9%.

Year-over-year (December 2022 vs December 2021, seasonally adjusted)

US retail trade increased 5.2% and food services and drinking places sales increased 12.1%.

Annual (2022 vs 2021, seasonally adjusted)

During 2022, the United States retail trade and food services increased 9.2%. Retail trade increased 8.2% and food services and drinking places sales increased 17.0%.

Sales were up in 12 of 13 retail categories, the only decline (in percentage terms) was seen in electronics (-6.3%) while the fastest gain was reported in gas stations (+29.4%).
