UK CONSUMER PRICE INDEX, JANUARY 2023

UK Consumer Price Index including owner-occupiers' housing costs (CPIH) increased 8.8% year-over-year in January 2023, down from 9.2% in December 2022. The largest contributions to rising UK inflation came from housing and household services (principally from electricity, gas and other fuels), food and non-alcoholic beverages. The largest downward contributions to CPI and CPIH came from transport (motor fuels) and restaurants and hotels.

Year-over-year growth in the UK Consumer Price Index (CPI) was 10.1% in January 2023, down from 10.5% in December 2022.

Rising prices in alcoholic beverages and tobaccoalso made the largest partially offsetting upward contribution to the monthly inflation rate.
