May 19, 2023EU AND EURO AREA CONSUMER PRICE INDEX, APRIL 2023 Year-over-year (April 2023 vs April 2022)
The inflation rate slowed to 8.1% in the European Union and edged up to 7.0% in the Euro Area in April 2023.
The fastest inflation was reported in Hungary (+24.5%) while the slowest inflation rate was in Luxembourg (+2.7%).
Energy inflation accelerated to 4.4% in the European Union and to 2.4% in the Euro Area in April.
Although energy inflation has slowed considerably, food price inflation remains elevated at 16.6% for the European Union and 15.1% for the Euro Area.
Excluding the impacts of energy, food, alcohol and tobacco prices inflation edged down to 6.5% in the European Union and to 5.6% in the Euro Area in April 2023.
