LABOUR FORCE SURVEY, JUNE 2023

                                                                           

Monthly (June 2023 vs May 2023, seasonally adjusted)

In Nova Scotia,

  • Labour force increased 7,800 (+1.5%) to 529,800
  • Employment increased 3,600 (+0.7%) to 495,700
  • Unemployment increased 4,200 (+14.0%) to 34,100
  • Unemployment Rate increased 0.7 percentage points to 6.4%

In Canada, 

  • Labour force increased 114,000 (+0.5%) to 21,319,900
  • Employment increased 59,900 (+0.3%) to 20,172,800
  • Unemployment increased 54,100 (+4.9%) to 1,147,100
  • Unemployment Rate increased 0.2 percentage points to 5.4%

In Halifax,  (3-month moving average) 

  • Labour force increased 1,200 (+0.4%) to 277,300
  • Employment decreased 1,200 (-0.5%) to 261,600
  • Unemployment increased 2,300 (+17.2%) to 15,700
  • Unemployment Rate increased 0.8 percentage points to 5.7%

Year-over-year (June 2023 vs June 2022)

In Nova Scotia,

  • Labour force increased 10,300 (+2.0%)
  • Employment increased 9,600 (+2.0%)
  • Unemployment increased 700 (+2.1%)
  • Unemployment Rate was unchanged

In Canada, 

  • Labour force increased 591,100 (+2.9%)
  • Employment increased 470,000 (+2.4%)
  • Unemployment increased 121,100 (+11.8%)
  • Unemployment Rate increased 0.5 percentage points

In Halifax,  (3-month moving average) 

  • Labour force increased 13,000 (+4.9%)
  • Employment increased 8,800 (+3.5%)
  • Unemployment increased 4,200 (+36.5%)
  • Unemployment Rate increased 1.3 percentage points
